Gurdeep Prewal

Gurdeep lives and breathes the Rocana lifestyle, and the Rocana “better living” mission was born out of his deep personal passions for health and wellness. Before launching Rocana, Gurdeep spent 17 years in investment banking M&A and capital markets working on numerous landmark and award-winning deals and is a CFA charter holder. In 2018, he transitioned to venture capital, combining his financial acumen and savvy deal-making with his Ikigai-led mission of investing in purpose-driven consumer brands. Gurdeep is Canadian-born and Singapore-adopted.

Sumesh's deep passion is creating value through bringing people together. He truly lives the "possible people" ethos. Sumesh grew up in Zambia, graduated from Pace University in New York and became one of the youngest CPA's in the NY state. His professional career includes CFO, COO and CEO roles in industry agnostic businesses all over the world having lived in New York, Singapore (where he met Gurdeep in 2008), Mumbai, Dubai and Los Angeles. He has extensive operational and business management experience, investing personally in the Better living space since 2014 and through Rocana since 2018.

Raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. 10+ years venture investor and advisor to food, beverage, and sustainability startups. Graduated from MIT undergrad with a degree in Chemical/Bio Engineering and an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management. Youngest Director in history of BNP Paribas equity derivatives division and first director of Finance for Eataly USA.

Founding Investor
LM was Chairman of Grupo Mariposa, Rocana’s anchor investor since inception when we started RVP1 in 2015, further anchoring us in RVP2 and RVP3, and an invaluable supporter of Rocana’s mission. We acknowledge him as our Founding Investor. He was from the fourth generation of the nearly 130-years family-owned business that has risen to become one of the largest food and beverage companies in Latin America, including being Pepsi’s anchor bottler for almost 90 years, a JV partner of AB Inbev, and a growing portfolio of its own brands.
LM was a visionary leader, loved by all, a highly strategic thinker, spoke from the heart, and had an intoxicating sense of humor. It was impossible to not feel his presence. His vision of the future to support entrepreneurs in our portfolio was exemplary. During one of his last meals, he spent time with the co-founders of Olipop, charting a path to building Olipop into a global brand. He seemed like he was at his emotional peak, in his element, in his flow state, as excited as we’ve ever seen him. We will miss his energy.
Over the years, Rocana has built extensive relationships across Grupo Mariposa, including with various family members and the senior management team. Our strategic collaboration with the group has resulted in transformational value-add to our portfolio companies, and similarly, transformational change within Grupo Mariposa leveraging the market intelligence gained from the Rocana platform. The current family members and senior management are excited to continue supporting Rocana. Together we are inspired to honor LM’s legacy and continue to build the consumer brands of tomorrow, delivering on our shared mission of Better Living. He is survived by his wife Diana and three children.
